Data sources and privacy
Last updated: October 2026
1. What this page is about
The company pages on cnpj-api.com are built from the public register of Brazilian companies (Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica, CNPJ). This page explains where that data comes from, the legal basis for publishing it, what we choose not to show and how to request the removal of a page.
For each company we display:
- CNPJ, opening date and registration status
- Legal name (razão social) and trade name (nome fantasia)
- Legal nature, company size and share capital
- Main and secondary economic activities (CNAE)
- Simples Nacional and MEI options
- Neighbourhood, city and state; street address and postal code only for companies that are not MEI
- Partners and administrators: name and role, as published by the Federal Revenue
2. What we do not show
- Phone numbers and e-mail addresses are never displayed on the website.
- A CPF that appears inside an older legal name is masked: only its first three digits remain.
- A partner's CPF is shown exactly as the Federal Revenue publishes it, already partially hidden.
- Companies whose owners asked for removal are not published at all (see below).
3. Where the data comes from
Registration data is obtained from the open-data files of the CNPJ register published by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal do Brasil). The register is updated by the Federal Revenue on a monthly basis and our copy follows each publication. Logos and websites, when present, come from public sources on the web.
4. Open data and legal basis
According to the Brazilian federal government, data is open when anyone can freely access, use, modify and share it, for any purpose. The CNPJ register is published under the Open Data Policy (Decree No. 8,777/2016) and the Access to Information Act (Law No. 12,527/2011), which implements the right of access to information guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.
The Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law No. 13,709/2018) defines personal data as information about an identified or identifiable natural person (article 5, I) and sensitive data as information about racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, political opinions, union membership, genetics, biometrics, health or sex life (article 5, II). Registration data of a legal entity, such as its CNPJ, legal name, activities and business address, is not personal data, and nothing displayed on this website is sensitive data.
When a natural person does appear, as a partner or as the owner of a MEI, that information was made public by the Federal Revenue itself and is processed under article 7, paragraphs 3 and 4 of the LGPD. Even so, we reduce its exposure as described in the next section.
5. How we treat MEI companies
The legal name of a MEI (Microempreendedor Individual) is the owner's own name, and the registered address is often their home. For that reason, on company pages of a MEI:
- The name is abbreviated: the first name is kept and the other words are reduced to initials, for example "MARIA DA SILVA SANTOS" becomes "MARIA S. S.".
- Phone numbers and e-mail addresses are not shown.
- Only the neighbourhood, city and state are shown. Street, number, complement and postal code are not published.
- Any CPF inside the name is masked.
The same abbreviation applies wherever a sole-proprietor name appears in a list on this website, such as city, CNAE and directory pages.
6. Removal and correction
If you are the owner, a partner or the legal representative of a company and do not want its page displayed on this website, write to [email protected] with the CNPJ numbers concerned, as described in section 7 of our Terms of Service. We may ask for proof of your relationship with the company. Removal covers every establishment of the company and takes effect on the next deployment of the website.
We do not edit registration data. If something is wrong, update the register at the Federal Revenue; the correction appears here after the next publication of the open-data files.
